In chapters 3 and 4 of the third Book of Nephi in the Book of Mormon we are introduced to two men, Giddianhi and Gidgiddoni. Giddianhi is the leader of a wicked perverse group of people whose intent is nothing more than conquering and plundering the other peoples in the land. Gidgiddoni on the other hand is the general of the land of Zarahemla and is placed in a position where he has to try to protect the people of all the land from Giddianhi. He ends up gathering all the people together into one city to consolidate their forces.
It is my intent to show you the similarities between Gidgidoni's struggle and that of Werner K. an FBI agent trying desperately to catch and prosecute cyber-criminals. Unfortunately for Werner he doesn't have the one tactic on his side that helped Gidgiddoni win the war, unity. Werner is in a constant fight because after hunting down a suspect, a task that can take years, there is often nothing he can do because the suspect may live in a country with no laws to punish them or punishments so light they would never deter further attacks.
To put a little perspective to Werner's plight consider if Gidgidoni's people were spread out all over the land. When Giddianhi's men came to each town they would destroy them with hardly even a fight. Occasionally Gidgiddoni might have a large garrison who would harm Giddianhi's army but never anything large enough to stop him from coming back again.
The only way Werner is going to get anywhere is if we as a global community can agree and enforce universal laws to hinder and punish cyber-attackers. Unity is what saved Gidgiddoni's people unity can save ours.
